It seems Greenpeace is trying to stop Gazprom by attacking their rig.

Having been lucky enough to visit the Arctic I can understand their concerns, lets face it Russia's attitude to pollution in the face of industrial progress is balls, but then, would I attack a company with strong links to the old KGB? No, I'd imagine that would be a fundamentally bad idea.

Attack a Russian company in general, especially one that's important for Russia economically!? There are quicker ways to commit suicide....

Greenpeace are quite a powerful and influencial organisation, for the most part they exist with an enormous legal department, but actions like this are simply to ensure that they remain in the media. These kind of actions are symbolic more then anything.
As a good hypocrite I do believe in their cause.

I seem to remember that the French made a fairly symbolic gesture to Greenpeace a few years back, I can see a similarly symbolic gesture coming from Russia Gazprom soon.

Will be interesting to see what happens, I had a friend work for them as ETO and was offered a job onboard (Rainbow Warrier???) and whilst I'm sure it's full of hippy girls, I imagine that I'd never get a decent job again at sea after that, nor pass a security clearance.

Getting a job on a greenpeace ship would kill your career.

I've got a lot more respect for the folk that work on the whale wars boats, at least they are fighting for something within the bounds of reality.

Greenpeace also demonstrate against whaling, and together with their legal department they have been immensely successful in a number of areas. I know what you mean about Whale Wars, but have you watched the show? They are incredibly amateur.

I know someone who used to work for Greenpeace, who ended up working for Foreland Shipping as a sponsored reservist in the RNR, so not necessarily and as some one above has said, you could just not get them to stamp your discharge book and pretend you were in prison during that time.

Greenpeace genrally keep there protests either within the law, or on the fringes of the law, as for Sea Shepherd they are nothing but a bunch of pirates who should be hung in chains from the main mast of the nearest warship.

This raises questions about the competence of the Defence Vetting Agency! Unless he was an undercover agent of the authorities.
