  • Ferry sinks on the east coast of Papua New Guinea

    BBC link

The Rabaul Queen sank 10 miles off the Huon peninsula at the southern end of the Vitiaz Strait; 238 survivors rescued, perhaps 100 missing. Bad weather is being blamed. My standby ship's bigger than this thing, and it would be crowded with 100 on board.
'... English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't
just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages
down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for
new vocabulary.' - James Davis Nicoll

Yes, but ferries sink all the time around the Philippines, Indonesia, etc. Not really newsworthy unless there's something special about it or a handful of Brits were in mild peril.
