Why have you got a piece of cardboard taped over the rudder indicator?
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

That is the Gyro Repeater for the Helm, it's to block the light at night, which even if you dim it all the way, still lets off a glow, it is very distracting, hence cardboard.

Surprised you commented on that, would of thought an engineer would of been commenting on our Rolls-Royce Bow Thruster. Secret longing for the bridge??

Here is one for you GM. The engine from my second ship (I didn't take the photo for the record, taken from a friends FB page). 14RTflex96c-b, 109,000 horse power, one of the most powerful engines in the world, 29 knots achieved at trial.

Nah, seen a much more impressive bow thruster before. It was a massive directional Caterpiller one that was fitted to a small Ro/Ro ferry....

Nice, although I doubt would be much use on a big box ship. We had a twin set up on last ship, 5,000 hp combined transverse thrust, effectively you only need one tug for mooring (in calm conditions).

I've seen the indicator covered before, but it was because one of the deckies doing cox duty was easily distracted by shiny things; covering it up forced them to look at the horizon.

Why would you want to look at the horizon? You should be watching the bow, the RoT indicator, and the rudder angle. If you have the helm, you shouldn't be navigating, or making collision avoidance decisions.

Have you seen the water jets fitted to the high speed ferrys?

I was impressed, and I'm not a mechanical engineer

I was a bit bored as a cadet crossing the Atlantic...

I thought the cargo weren't allowed to use video cameras on the bridge?
