Why did this not make more news?????? I'd have hoped our news feed bot would bring up things like this, but it's the first I've heard of it as well.

The newsbot as its name implies takes its feed from shiptalk.com where this article was not featured. The bot is simply installed as a test of popularity. It only updates the top 3 stories every 12 hours, therefore if they do not change it does not post anything. This is to prevent the board from becoming clogged with news like deck-officer

What I find shocking is that this was not a top story, this is pretty big I'd have thought?

I agree, though they obviously don't like telling everyone a cadet has been killed on ship I guess. Alot of people jumping to conclusions and all that, although still it should have been more important than some articles that float about. My thoughts are with the family.

                    Sad, very sad indeed.

Be interesting to know fully what happened...
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

Anyone know what the suspected cause of death was? I remember there was a big issue a few years back when a cadet died from heat exhaustion on a ship.

According to My friend Who has known this guy , the majority of his life (isle of lewis is a small community ) His family are still over in HK and Little is still known , Sounds like it could be sudden death syndrome . What a tragic way to go He only had one phase left .

If thats the case, it's sad but it's unavoidable and makes you realise that you must make the most of everyday. So when you arrive in a new port and the lads ask you if you want to go for a drink and wander around, just go for it! Make the most of life.

He died of a massive heart attack. Natural causes. The biggest shame about the whole thing is that he was genuainly the nicest person you could ever meet, you would never meet anyone that could say a bad word about him. Just under 2000 people attended his funeral. We were int he same year in high school, and were int he same college class at home before we went away to seperate colleges for our cadetships.

From what I had seen him saying on facebook- he had already served his time and was actually due to leave the ship before this but his trip was extended by six weeks.
