  • Climbing the ships mast! Headcam of repairs.

HD Headcamera video I made, up the mast in South Georgia when moving the SAT C a few days after repairing it. The original ripped off and disapeared into the sea during very rough weather. Once videoing this, I then had to go up the fore-mast and repair the icelight. It was very Cold up in the wind, and the mast wobbles a lot more then you can see there!

    Enjoy

PS. please don't modify the post so it is an embedded video, you'll loose the HD quality, which defies the point of a video in such a beautiful place in my opinion.

I can't see the video. Says it's content from an SME and is blocked on copyright grounds...

Not too scared of heights I take it?
Not saying that I am but that would certainly be... uncomfortable :P

Very cool video. Umm...no safety harness or anything when you were changing the icelight? Just asking

Sorry the licensing is because of the the music overlayed on the video.

It is my GoPro HD, although we are considering to get one for the company for things such as tank inspections, they have complete water tight casing, used this footage actually to go back and see how another antenna was attached which got bent.

Yes I am wearing a full safety harness, which i attached when in position, and you must have three points of contact with the ladder at all time, for example when working with both hands, my back was on the ladder guard rail, and two feet, as well as the safety harness. I do not like these silly safety harness which are only a belt, and would refuse to use one personaly. If you don't feel confident with heights then don't do the job is the golden rule, last thing you want is a passed out person dangling from a safety harness up higher then most fire fighters turn tables and ladders go.

I don't get scared of heights no, if i consider it safe, then I will do it, if its not safe, no one should be doing it. I'm also into my extreme sports, so enjoy something a bit different, hehe, just finished my mountain biking video yesterday if anyones interested; http://www.pinkbike.com/video/209066

If your not serious when it comes to making films, you can get non-hd cameras for a lot cheaper!

Ah, that explains the SME business then.

I don't know if GoPro would be suitable for tank inspections. I wouldn't think it would project enough light for it to pick up anything of use. A normal camera does the job just nicely. On scene accident investigation maybe (normally because you're supposed to document EVERYTHING that you do, touch and say).

Oh, about the belt only safety harnesses. Those are not supposed to be used for height on any vessel, if you fell, then the force of the fall and location of the belt would most likely break your back. If you see one on board, then raise a non-conformance report (not a Near-Miss).
