Re: Is it possible to pirate-proof a yacht?
Depends how much money you have, I wouldn't fancy a pirate's chances if they were trying to board Roman Abramovich's yacht "Eclipse". It's got missiles ffs!

I had the pleasure of sailing past her earlier this year, she was standing off the Pitons (St Lucia) when we were going in for some scenic cruising. Mindful of the missiles, the captain radioed them to say we weren't going to try anything silly!!

Re: Is it possible to pirate-proof a yacht?
No it is not possible to pirate proof a yacht. It's like saying something is "terrorist proof".
You have to understand that these guys are highly motivated, cunning and they learn from their mistakes pretty damn quickly. This is the group that learnt how to stop vessel's calling for help on Ch. 16 using a mobile phone, so never think of them as morons or idiots as they truly are not.
You could use every pre-caution short of armed guards, but they will eventually get on board. Anti-piracy measures arn't designed to actually stop them for longer than a few hours (where they would either become bored or go and find easier prey).
Even if they do get on board and you have all escaped into your lovely citadel, then that will only hold for however long your water lasts (food is optional. You can survive a few weeks without eating or you could always eat the least popular crewman) and even then they are beginning to learn how to get a crew out of a citadel.
All anti-piracy measures are deterrents, they will not stop them completely. Armed guards will usually do that, but it gets messy (literally and legally).I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....
All posts here represent my own opinion and not that of my employer.

Sure, a few .50cal miniguns and missile launchers would definitely get the message across. If you really want to go Rambo on them then M249 SAW is a must for laying some suppressive fire and breaking that language barrier at 1000 rounds per minute

With regards to the missiles, I'm pretty sure it carries countermeasures against missiles, not missiles themselves. He's rich, but not that rich to go flaunting military grade weaponry on the worlds oceans
