Letter from Clyde Marine Training

I got a letter (finally) from CMT this morning. It says due to a recent industry review and the high number of applicants that they have suspended applications and interviews. They are asking that anyone who currently has an application in place but no longer wishes to be considered to get in touch and withdraw their applications and that they will review the situation at the end of April 2011.

I guess this means CMT are pretty much full for the now and are hoping that a number of applicants may have already got places with other companies (say sstg, or a sponsoring company directly) or have lost interest/ changed minds so they can get their numbers to a more manageable level before interviewing current applicants or taking on new ones.

This news, along with the news that SSTG are also full, sort of indicates that the September intake is almost, if not completely, full and closed.

Well we havent heard anything from other companies from what my mates told me also maersk are getting that way hes still waiting on word back from his application, though we dont know for sure they are writting contracts up, though theres still shell bp viking etc etc etc ........

sstg has cut off applications for sept 2011. Sent my application in to CMT the day before they closed off applications

A lot of the other shipping companies will still be recruiting, because the SSTG, and Clyde are training companies, they tend to do interviews all year round, then just find a college place for people, Clyde finding them the sponsor themselves, and the SSTG waiting to hear form it's member companies how many cadets they need then inform the cadets of which companies are available and try to keep everyone happy.
Things are always subject to change though, I applied for the Jan intake with SSTG, but was originally going to wait till this September, as they could only offer me a place with one company that didn't appeal to me, but then I got a phone call in December, saying one of their companies had decided it wanted 2 more engineers for January, and would I be interested.

Your best bet now though is to wait for the shipping companies that do their own recruitment to start, whereas SSTG and Clyde just collect cadets then assign them, the other shipping companies will decide how many cadets they want, then start accepting applications and interview, for the January intake James Fisher left their recruitment and interviews really late. But you will need to get in these shipping companies really promptly, and if you're able to I'd advise using the careers at sea website, and finding as many companies as you can, and checking their websites daily, so you can get applications off as soon as.

Well I have got an interview with CMT on the 20th of April so it looks like CMT have some places opening up. I havn't heard anything from any of the other companies (apart from the updates from BP and the news that SSTG are closed) so fingers crossed it goes well. Anyone else waiting on CMT got an interview date?
