Re: sea survival video from the STC open day
remember liferafts are the worst case scenario, you would be more likely to be in an enclosed lifeboat on most modern shipsFormer TH cadet with experience of cruise ships, buoy tenders, research ships and oil tankers

I can't re-watch the video because I'm currently onboard a ship so streaming is blockedHowever, if you are referring to the platform near the winch then no. A few years ago that would of been the height you jumped from (I would of relished that), but 'elf and safety' considered it too dangerous (its a sea survival course for god sake, of course it should include an element of danger!) Now you jump from a 'step' at the side of the pool which is about a foot and a half high, much to my disappointment

Thats utter madness that you can't jump from the upper platform, when I did my Sea Survival at STC we did that and it was great fun, if a little daunting in the dark.
It is a great fun course, and you'd have to mad not to enjoy it along with the Fire Fighting etc. Also depending on where you work, you may end up with the chance to do these exercises with actual helicopters etc.
