  • Google Earth

I don't know if any of you saw Newsnight Scotland last night but the illustrious Vice Admiral Sir Alan Massey, head of the MCA has basically said that our coastguards are too be replaced by Google Earth! I've just been playing with google earth, if I type in the name of my village then I get 10 choices, the road to my village is apparently on the other side of the country and there are a few choices for my local district, none of which are local to me!

If you guys haven't written to your MP's about this or filled in the consultation form then do so right now. Remember, it's your lives that all this is going to effect.

No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

+ considering, well you would be reporting a position by range/bearing or more likely lat/long which is unique....

But anyway, yes the recent government changes to coastguard cover, along with the discussions on all the tax breaks (or rather the potential removal of them) are not going to be good for us.

Hope they have good folks for that then. I normally crash and that would look bad on national TV with their state of the art, brand spanking new CG helicopter crashing upon take off....

changes to tax breaks - If they removed the seafearers earning deduction you could still be a uk non resident and not pay any income tax if you were happy to stay out the uk 275 days a year. (You can visit for 90 days a year and the arrival and deaparture dates aren't currently counted)
