Warsash ETO Course

For phase 1, so far we have been having 3 days of more theory based lessons and 2 completely workshop days a week. Before Christmas this included Maths for FD, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Electrics, Instrumentation and Control for all the theory classes. In the workshop we built test boxes for ohms law which included soldering and designing the layouts and completing all aspects of the building ourselves singularly. We then moved onto learning about 3 phase and how to wire up a test bored for a motor in various configurations. Lastly, just before Christmas we made our own control box for new 3-phase motors, all the wiring, contactors and switches had to be completed ourselves plus meet our wiring diagrams/numbering diagrams that we had to make too. Was really satisfying when you got it right, but god when you hit a problem it could take hours to get over haha.

After Christmas the lessons we have been having are Electricity Power Systems, Engineering Science, More Instrumentation and control and also more Marine Electrics. In workshop we have been working on armoured cable, explosive glands, piro (fire alarm cabling) and how to set it in trays with various extra bits added on. In the last week we started doing navigation lights and fire alarm systems in small groups.

Normally we have at least a few hours each day off from lessons where we can ask our lecturers any questions or just revise in the library/rooms too.

Sounds like you've done more than me, especially workshop wire and I'm a phase three cadet, STC completely bollocked up our workshop! looks like in the future, it may be the place to go for ETO's haha

What do you do in warsash daily. What subjects do you do in college

We started off with 18 but one left after a few weeks to do something else.
