  • A little help please

Hi, I'm 16 and have been offered a sponsorship (GCSE's and ENG 1 depending) starting in September.
I have been asked to draw a list of the three companies I would like to be sponsored by (you can probably guess who's given me the offer). I have narrowed it down to a few (P&O Ferries, Wilhelmsen, Imperial Shipping and Eastern Pacific) I was wondering if anyone knew any good or bad points about any of these companies and also my offer letter said my training would commence at Warsash but I was under the impression that the sponsoring company chose this?
    Thanks,
    H2O

Clyde will choose your college. As for the company you want to be sponsored by it depends on what type of vessel you wish to sail on and where you would like to sail. As P&O operate ferries from uk to Ireland/ Netherlands and such, where as wilhelmsen tend to be deep sea car carriers. I do have a friend who did his cadetship with wilhelmsen and he said it was good

Ok I thought that the college was out of my hands. I would like to do deep sea and be away from home as much as possible. I was considering choosing P&O as internal recruitment may be an easier way of getting on cruise liners. I have Wilhelmsen as my no.1 choice, I just couldn't find much on the forum about it. Thank you

I say this a lot, but try your utmost to get on a tanker of some sort, preferably gas, chemical or crude (in that order).

If you get the experience on those, it will give you a lot more options at the end of your cadetship as it is much easier to move from tankers to dry/cruise than it is the other way around....
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

Aye, hope so! Trust me, the tanker companies tend to really look after their staff and their leave ratio's and pay tend to be pretty good as well....
