If you're working towards exams, I presume you're at home or college, with internet and library access. All of these answers should be in either your course notes, library books or google...

        1. Advantages and disadvantages of union purchase?

Unions have a pretty bad reputation. They are often stereotyped as protecting lazy and bad workers, as well as causing unemployment other inefficiencies. However the many benefits of unions are often ignored including increased morale, productivity and equality.
I would love to see someone submit this answer in a cargo and construction paper! ( I think the question is refering to union purchase derricks, whereby you have two derrick masts working in union to lift objects)

These are questions posed to you at college as either as a test, coursework or required research, either way we are not here to do your homework, and as per forum guidelines I am removing Turnbats answers, not because they are wrong, but because being given the answers on a plate isn't going to teach you how to find information for yourself.

          7. Difference between statutory and SOLAS requirements?
This does look like homework! Maybe my post will get removed, but I will indicate a direction to go with more questions!

          1. A union purchase involves two cranes instead of one, so what does that do with regards to time? Maybe that could impact on the stress on the equipment or possibly the amount of cargo that can be lifted? The wires lifting the cargo between the two cranes (you can find the proper name yourself!), I wonder how big that angle can get between them?

          2. Well, if its not on a computer, it may be in a book? A GZ curve could help?

          3. I can't think of a question for this one without giving it away!

          4. What is KG? One of those stays the same, one varies - why?

          5. This is a bit vague, but then again, what variable values can you check and enter into the trim and stability booklet?

          6. International Code of Signals? That may help.

          7. What does Statutory mean? What would happen if your vessel did not comply with SOLAS? Are all vessels under the same flag?

I must admit, I thought that turnbats post was pretty obvious.

Yes, I got the joke but the OP could have missed that (seeing as they're asking for the answers they should be doing their own research for). The last thing I want to see is people learning the wrong thing... As a mod my job is to wear the sensible hat and be a boring old fart sometimes.

Bit of a shame its fallen foul of sense of humour failure?
in fairness though, quite a few people on here who are starting in September might have taken the opportunity to start picking things up in advance, and if we capsize a ship because we had the wrong idea, I don't think the defence "some bloke on the internet said so" will live up to much!
