    Just a quick question, is this thing a divider?

    I think it is but don't want to buy one only for it to be the wrong thing

    Yeah, they are dividers but they look more for engineering type things. You would move them in and out with the wheel so they are super accurate but take longer.

    http://sailorshop.co.uk/product/bras...cal-chartwork/ these are the ones more commonly used for chartwork as it s much easier to measure distances with them, all a matter of opinion I suppose but I prefer the brass ones

      That's a compass. One side is a steel nib, the other is a pencil lead. Dividers have steel points on both sides. You will need a compass for chartwork, but I would also suggest CD's shop - he also sells a chartwork package with basically everything you need.

        I am afraid they would rapidly destroy a chart, far too sharp. Normal brass dividers are more than sufficient.
