would you pls give me some useful sources about chief mate courses and all other related subjects to pass this course in uk?

Hello Mehrdad welcome to the forum

UK cadets going for their OOW ticket get sponsored by shipping companies who pay a small wage and cover the costs of the course. At the end of the cadetship some people get taken on by their sponsor company, however most do not and have to find work independently once they have qualified.

When people go for their chief mate ticket they sometimes get sponsored by the company they work for, but the majority of people have to fund it themselves. So unless you can persuade your current company to pay for it you will need to fund it yourself.

We have several useful resources in this thread: http://www.officercadet.com/showthre...rals-resources

      what a big problem!
i read some application forms and compare fees for resident and international student, almost international student must pay double.
so without any supporting system i think nobody can afford this courses.
any way, what is your suggestion for pass this course?glasgow/warash/etc.

Yeah I don't think there is really any way round it, just got to save up and pay the fees unless your current company is willing to sponsor you through it. As for recommendations, I did my cadetship at Glasgow and would NOT recommend it to anyone as a training establishment.

Yep it's not cheap (my company wouldn't pay for either my chief mates or masters) I'm afraid there is no way around it.

As for colleges I was pretty happy with Warsash but its been a while and very much depends on who is teaching the course (we had a couple of dud lecturers during both courses but as a class we got them replaced)

Glasgow is cheaper than the others for the mates course.
Not sure why this might be :P

Lewis - your not saying that the quality of the course could possibly be linked to the price are you!?

Its basic economics if the demand for something is less the price must fall until a market clearing price is reached. As to why thee demand is less I couldn't possibly say. Maybe it's the weather :P

For Scottish and EEC nationals, a number of fee support mechanisms exist for this course, full details of which can be found on the following link. www.student-support-saas.gov.uk

There are many people of all nationalities in the UK who are nationalised here that can go and get their COC in a UK College, or people of other nationalities that get it and nobody here thinks anything of it, I would hope. Back in my day it was the same,Iran, Iraq and Nigeria trained huge numbers in the UK because it was considered the best ticket in the world for English speaking. Everyone was treated the same regardless of nationality.

Many other nations are not of the same standard and therefore COC's are not always trusted because they are not obtained by hard work and knowledge.

Does nationality matter? - No way....

Does the nationality of the COC matter? - Absolutely....
