  • hydrostatic particulars

    good evening

I know most people will be asking what am I doing in on a friday night with ship stability

But it has to be done!

My questions is regarding, the title, hydrostatic particulars

    The charts given are to .1m i.e 5.7m, 5.8m 5.9m .... and so on

What is the best way to work out displacement and TPC to 3 decimal places instead, in other words say i have a displacement or TPC falling between 7.6 and 7.7 how do i work out to 7.6xx?

    Thanks for your time
    Greg

yup thats kinda the solution, obviously the resolution that you get from it will depend on the number of steps it is possible to change the other variable into, a good math package or even excel will be able to crunch the numbers, or you can use some long and fun friday night formulas
you can take it with a pinch of salt, but i prefer it with a nip of whisky

Oh come on, interpolation isn't that difficult, it's only ratios!!

its only a simple ratio assuming a linear response, and many things wont produce straight lines,

yes well, that sort of thing might be necessary for electrical calcs, I don't know, but for stability and hydrostatics etc, linear interpolation is just dandy!

morning guys, thanks for your help, I just about managed to get there in the end

is there any other routes in getting the answer that you know of as well?

not really finding intermeadiate data points is the whole purpose of interpolation, which can either be solved graphically or with the massive interpolation formual, however that will basically be a ratio for the linear system so you can side step a few bits, although its worth knowing what you are actually doing. other than that you can simply guess

Linear interp gets you close enough for government work.
