  • LOLER and PUWER

    Hi all,

ive recently began studying up for my Chief mates ticket. I’ve managed to get my hands on a few past orals reports and in a couple they mention LOLER and PUWER Regulations with regards to lifting operations and equipment.

Im just a little confused as on the uk government website it says ‘Although LOLER has a wide application, any lifting equipment used on ships is generally excluded because there are other provisions for the safety of this equipment under merchant shipping legislation’.

Could anyone point me in the direction of the correct legislation and understand why LOLER and PUWER have been brought up in an oral without being challenged if they aren’t relevant?

    Thanks in advance!

MGN 332 is LOLER, more of an overview but you need to be aware how it feeds into PUWER which is MGN 331

My OOW TRB notes attached, take with a pinch of salt as its a bit of a cut and paste job but might help?
