Do ro ro ferries have a large GM or a small GM and how does it affect there handling. I have looked in some text books and now confused myself

That's a bit of a broad question - there's so many variables that come into play - the ballasting, cargo, loading pattern, FSM etc.

Generally quite high (compared to the minimums) the Ro-Ro I was on was always higher than 4m if memory serves...

The lowest I saw during the entire cadetship was around 2m...

Dont think it affects handling massively, but does affect the 'feel' of the ship. High GM is stiff and the ship will 'jerk' back and come upright quickly. Low GM is tender and the vessel will roll slow and long - does make for a more comfortable ride sometimes.
