  • What is the best job search site for 3rd Officer vacancies?

This is a question I have not seen asked before, and although I am a long way off being a qualified deck officer, it would be interesting to have a look at what recruitment opportunities are like in terms of vacancies.

I would say there is no centralised one that is best. There are the agencies of course that you register with (such as Clyde Marine, Viking Recruitment, SeaMariner, etc. who keep you on file and will contact you if they find anything) but when it comes to individual jobs you just have to keep looking. Just have a look at the employment pages of the Telegraph - the various agencies / recruitment agents are pretty much all listed there.

Having contacts within the industry helps as well. So far the two jobs I have got were through speaking directly to the ship managers who's names I got from friends within the industry. I've even had officers on other ships calling me up on the VHF and enquiring about who they can send their CV too so I am assuming this is a normal practice!
