  • Suitcase/weight

Hi, What is the travel weight allowance. I am getting a flight down to Southampton which is being organised by my training provider. What weight should my luggage be for the flight and for travelling on ship?

it's usually around 20kg, but take into account a suitcase can way around 6 to 8kg!

shorthaul is usually 20kgs although some airlines say 15kgs... long haul is about 40kgs...

where are you flying from? you can check the routes from your airport to southampton and see which airline will be flying you that way

Looking at the BAA Southampton website and all possible flights from Scottish Airports I see only 2 airlines offer direct flights and they are Flybe and Eastern.

Flybe Economy plus is 40kg of luggage (i doubt they'll fly you economy plus) otherwise the limit is 1 bag of no more than 20kgs
Eastern only 15kg per passenger with 10kg max in hand baggage

There are special air travel tickets and conditions (including increased baggage allowances) available for merchant seamen but it depends on whether your company has bought you such a ticket. Alternatively they may pay for an extra baggage allowance in advance, even for economy seats.

I did, you also can get upgraded on the flights. I always flew Flybe premium plus - a few extra drinks. food and a nice lounge to sit in.
