Re: Alcohol.
Not sure on the exact policy but if FB is anything to go by it's fine in the accomodation (except the under-18s section I imagine) and in the bar.sigpicHello! I'm Chris. I'm away a lot so I'm sorry if it takes me a while to reply to messages, but I promise I'll get back to everyone. If it's urgent, please email me directly at [email protected].

Re: Alcohol.
ok I will give a brief outline of what it says in the code of conduct book:
"officer cadets under 18 may not purchase or consume alcoholic drinks neither must any other person procure alcohol for a cadet under 18"
"..cadets shall not be under the influence of alcohol to the detriment of their responsibilities as cadets under training, nor to such an extent to cause damage, injury, annoyance, offence, discomfort etc...these provisions apply both on and off campus...disciplinary action will be taken against anybody contravening these provisions"
"officer cadets must observe licensing hours and rules governing use of campus bar and co-operate with bar staff..."
I imagine it would therefore be fine to have it, just don't get lashed on it.

Alcohol is ok in your rooms, as long as you're not feeding it to cadets under 18, and you're not disturing others, or allowing it to influence your work. Most companies will give you a random drugs and alcohol test at some point each term or phase, so it's worth making sure that you don't have a heavy night and are subsequently over the drink-drive limit in the morning. It's quite easy to be over the limit in the morning/day after - nearly 1 in 6 drink drivers are caught the morning after the night out!
If the lecturer or technician instructors reasonably suspect that you are under the influence, or you are too hung-over to function properly, then you can expect to be asked to leave the lecture or workshop, and your sponsor will be informed. Bascially behave as you would at sea, or as a professional person working - just exercise some self-discipline, and don't cause problems for yourself by being constantly hung-over!Any opinions offered are mine and not necessarily those of my employer.

what if you have a company that operates dry fleet... are you expected to remain dry whilst in a college phase? Not all Trade Unionists are left wing, socialists or even ugly

What's the usual regime for drug and alcohol tests in your experience? Is it like one test per term/per phase? How random is the timing? Do they tend to test people on joining day and leaving day and one in the middle or is it a bit less draconian? Do they pull people out of lectures or is it more like arranging an appointment with a clinic in town? It sounds like you basically can't drink from Sunday teatime to Friday teatime, but the weekends are yours to an extent. I imagine drug-taking isn't a particularly common thing, especially amongst those living on campus.
What kinds of tests do they do? Same as on ships? Breathaliser? Urine? Saliva? anything else?Emeritus Admin & Founding Member

Re: Alcohol.
The tests are completely random in frequency - the only certainty is that you will get tested. They are normally urine tests, subcontracted to independent occupational health companies and laboratories. These test for alcohol and drugs. They will notify you immediately prior to the test, and you have to provide samples. Not doing so will get you a trip to the Job Centre! The same applies on ships, but aboard the Captain may also give you a breath test.
There's nothing wrong with a pint or two in the evenings (I wouldn't at lunch), but make sure that in the morning you are sober (below Drink Drive limits), alert and able to work at 100%! Basically it's just the same as anyone in employment - if you rock up to work each morning hung-over, smelling of beer, and are not capable of working properly, then you won't last long in a normal job or cadetship!Any opinions offered are mine and not necessarily those of my employer.
