Come to think of it - where were you!?Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn?t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.?

Hello people, I'm starting in January on the deck side. Im 22, have done Uni halls before and think that it'll work out cheaper in a house somewhere near the college. Could use some pointers on the merits/downsides of staying off campus before making a decision

Aside from that - like you I was 21 when I started, having already completed a university degree. I would recommend you stay in the halls for phase 1 - it's only 3 months, meals (which are acceptable) are included and more importantly you will be staying with other people from your company (normally). Ok you have to share a room but they're big enough that it's not really a problem and if your not capable of sharing a room for a few months at college I'd say you'll struggle at sea when your stuck with the same people for months.
Obvious other advantages; you can go for a nap between lectures, the library is 30 second walk from your room, there's a bar & costa on campus and 3 other pubs within a short walk. You will meet the people on your course.
Being from Scotland I couldn't really go home at the weekend - while several people did go home at the weekend - mainly the younger ones - I think they really missed out, those of us that stayed at the weekends had a great time... I'll compare this to my time at uni were I commuted - I can honestly say that I was more sad to leave warsash at end of phase 1 than I've ever been before. Phase 3 I would suggest living with a bunch of fellow cadets either in Southampton or in a house nearby... and phase 5 majority still appear to want to stay on campus - I would recommend it - purely because your near the library for studying!?Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn?t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.?
