just interested if anyone could tell me what the college hours are like for the FD course for deck cadets at the academy?

Hello,

There will be two groups of FD Deck in January. Some lectures are shared with both groups, others are separate.

Here's an example of the Group 1 timetable for a random week next year:

Nope, they're phase one for FD.

Some of these subjects ae done in phase three for HND.

Are the HND deck hours similar?

HND deck hours are sort of similar but as your progress with FD you get more non-contact study time. While HND does have some free periods, you tend to find HND timetables are fuller than FD.

It is not unusual for HND to have lectures all day whereas FD will have self study periods.

But this all depends on what phase you're in

For FD Deck the maths lectures are optional if you pass the initial maths test in the first week.

For HND, we had five teaching hours and four tutorial hours for Maths. If you're ahead on the work you can usually miss the tutorial. However, it's a different lecturer for January so this may not be the case.

Thats really different from here at fleetwood! We usually have 2, 3 hour lessons a day (9-12 + 1-4). Nearly every day too

You must state the warning here though......

There is a free surface effect to beer which is not found in any other liquid. Once you have a quantity of more than 4 pints in a container (stomach) then the virtual rise in your C of G is greater, and increases exponentially for each additional pint, and you lose your ability to remain upright on a chair as your righting moment decreases. This effect is also magnified by an additional 20% if the lecturer talks in a monotone.

The beer then lowers its own baffle plates (your eyelids) without warning.

The only way to counteract this is to fit stabilisers (a cadet either side) with a sharp compass in their hand. For one, they keep you upright, and two a sharp stab causes the automatic baffles to fail to drop.

Various methods have been tried to counteract the effect. Cadets have been known to swallow beer mats whole in order to create natural baffle plates in the stomach. This has merely resulted in constipation and an excess of wind or the regurgitation of something akin to soggy weetabix part way through the lecture.
