    Evening guys

Just a quick one about the more social sides of things down in Warsash.

What is the social in general like down there? Any one shed any light on a typical 'Fresher's week'- fair bit of drinking by anychance?

I am quite partial to a few jars, but from what I've read, Warsash seems quite different and set back from a lot of the nightlife available to mainstream uni's.

    Cheers,

    Joe

If you are after getting the tins in you'll be better off visiting soton or pompey

      Re: Freshers week

There is sort of a freshers week. Some of it is spent in introductory lectures to something called mycourse and the collages policies etc. Most of the time is free for you to socialise and meet the people you will be spending the next couple of years with. The college does put on some activities during the week but not as much as some uni's do. You'll probably go Paintballing which is a laugh. For some reason, and I can't think why, they timetable a trip to the Solent Uni site in Southampton to spend the day at a freshers fair at which they obviously have no idea of what we do at Warsash as when I was asked by the Careers advisor what I want to do when I leave Uni he was unaware that we were being paid to learn by the Companies we are hoping to keep jobs with - kinda felt sorry for the bloke ... pretty quiet morning for him. As for drinking just be sensible. Its not like Uni where you can get totally mashed and no one gives a sh*t - you cause any trouble the night staff will report it and it filters back to your company. Another point is that companies have policies on consuming alcohol - In theory from freshers week you are still getting paid so they could, unlikely, test you so keep it sensible and don't turn up pissed to muster - which some mug did in our second week.

Difference with warsash is simply geographic. As you are outside Soton/Pompey you need to travel to get too and from the main ' going out' areas which costs money as getting back you are looking a taxi ( ?20 -?25 ) as no public transport at that time.

Also it isnt the same as a normal uni course you are expected to turn up and be coherent as you will no doubt be told multiple times you are being paid to be there. From a drinking point of view treat it like a job.

Drinking does of course happen there are local pubs, supermarkets and the weekend to utilise.

For the other side of the coin how would it be for someone who isn't a big drinker? Does the campus get rowdy? When I was at uni (a lot time ago) there was a certain pressure to drink which was good fun but I'm not so bothered about that stuff these days. I sound so boring now!

This has crossed my mind too. I will be 27 in October and I have kind of grown out of heavy drinking and weekend binges and was a bit worried that I would become a bit of a loner and not fit into the normal student crowd.

How do you think I would feel then................at 47!!!!!!

To be honest - if I managed to get in, then it would be head down, arse up and study like hell !!!!!! Then, come the weekend, shoot off to spend a couple of nights with my wife.....

Not rowdy no. Obviously some noise at nights with people up till 3 - 4 am or coming in late but you just get that in halls. The worst that has happened this term is some guys covered the corridors in toilet paper. Up to you if you go out or not.
