  • Advice - Starting September 2011?

Hey, I'm starting at Warsash this September and just had a few questions!

    1. I'll be 16 so is there any extra restrictions on anything? Like curfews etc.?

    2. Is it worth bringing a TV/Xbox?

    3. Should I go for a single room or a shared? Will I miss out on meeting people in a single?

    4. I'm a girl, so is there many other girls? Will I be left out?

    Thanks!

So you managed to get a place then? Your other thread suggested you were waiting on offers.

    1. You will live with all the other under 18s and not be allowed alcohol, I think that is all.

    2. Personally I wouldn't bother, you want to be out meeting as many people as possible.

    3. Cadets normally have to use twin rooms.

    4. There should be plenty of other girl deckies there. There are currently.

Okay thanks! It's just I'm a bit of an xbox addict so not sure I'd survive without it hahaha!

So there's no curfew at all then!? Sounds great

Okay - at least I'll have some sort of xbox experience... I think I would actually die without it :/

At the bottom of the list it says you can use Live. Has this changed or is it still right?

I guess I should just ask next Friday on the open day?

Possibly, but if you are starting in September; professionalism may apply.
A new cadet going around asking if you can use xbox live wouldn?t look great I would have thought, maybe ask a cadet whom which looks like an xbox enthusiast.
May I ask, what company did you go with in the end?

                        oliviaaaa:
not to undermine The H, especially as they are admin... BUT:
1 - there aren't loads of restrictions, of course the alcohol thing applies but, its the old scenario of, do anything, just dont get caught. No-one comes round checking on rooms etc, so if you were to have a few drinks in your room i doubt it would matter.
2 - i see you're in southampton, i live near fareham, and after a few weeks and realising i had a bit too much free time i brought in my tv and my room mate brought his xbox - we got on xbox live, the techy guys said we werent meant to but unofficially gave us the trick to doing it (ie they tried to say it too fast for us to understand but im a bit of a nerd so knew what we had to do) - also, nice to hear you're a keen xboxer, AND female. Not to be sexist, its just a nice change to the norm! On this matter, however, The H makes a good point, you do want to be meeting people at first, and see whether you can afford the time balancing it with work load etc - so maybe not at first, just assess it after a little while.
3 - as you're U18 im not sure how it works, but many of us were just put in shared rooms. it may be different as you are younger/female.
4 - i cant say how many girls there will be obviously, but the ratio of girls to boys leans heavily to the male side. Having said that, the girls that were there were a very close knit group and you shouldnt be worried about being on your own or anything! Its nice to see more girls opting for this career.
5 - congratulations for getting in and good luck... i hope it all goes well for you!

Re: Advice - Starting September 2011?

If you are at Warsash the men and the women get separate accommodation. The under 18s are also split up.

So if you are still under 18 when you start you will be in a separate accommodation block with all the other ladies who are under 18.

If you are over 18 when you start you get put with all the other ladies who are over 18 again in a separate accommodation block.

About 10% of the intake at Warsash is female.

There are basically 2 at campus. Blythe where most people are and another Shackleton where the women and the under 18's go.

Doesnt really make much difference as you meet up and mingle during the day anyways.
