  • Accommodation Questions

Right, I'm starting WMA in Jan, 11 and I have a whole bunch of questions regarding accommodation.
    If you wouldn't mind.

Clyde marine have told me that they have reserved me a room however i will need to book it, that's fine but

    1. Should i book it soon or do i have to wait till closer to january, if so, how close?

    2. How big is a shared room roughly?

    3. I have read that at some colleges you get better accommodation if you 'feed yourself', is this true for WMA?

    4. During phase 2 your at sea, is your room safe to keep stuff in? (or is it no longer your room?)

    5. Prices? - not stated on there website

    6. I was thinking about taking my Xbox a monitor and my laptop. Is this common?

    Finally (for now)
    7. Are you half board/Full board/Self catering? Is it worth the extra bit of money? Is the food any good?

    Phew

    Thanks for any help.

    Re: Accommodation Questions

    1. Book whenever you have the money.

    2. Totally depends, mine is about 8 by 14.

    3. Not that I am aware of. They automatically put you on a 5day half tariff for meals.

    4. It is no longer your room.

    5. They are on the website; http://www.warsashacademy.co.uk/facilit ... ionfee.pdf

    6. I have no idea, although evenings can be slightly boring.

    7. I am not aware of a self catering option, it is either 5/7day half board or 7day full. I am 5 day half, and this works out fine, although buying a fridge for your room is a must.

And the food here leaves a lot to be desired.

      AWESOME!

Thanks for the quick helpful response, and for finding the prices, I must of missed 'em

5 day half looks good, what do you do on weekends though?

what's it like sharing a room? (i guess it depends on the person, i have a fear im gonna get stuck with a looney )

and last, do you have basins in the rooms?

      Thanks again

        Re: Accommodation Questions

I allocate myself ?30 a week on food, so buy lunch stuff and keep in fridge for the week, and either get pub food or microwave meals for weekends, again stored in fridge.

Sharing a room is ok, it can get annoying, and undoubtedly you will have arguments etc, but I shouldnt worry about it to much. I am lucky in that they have grouped my company together, so I have already spent 3 months with these guys before getting here.

There are no basins in my accommodation, Shakleton.

          Re: Accommodation Questions

The new intake are likely to be in Blyth... as all the deckies enter phase 2 as the new lot start...

Blyth has been recently renovated... not that you'd notice and there are basins in the room... There will be some space in shackleton but this is likely to be used for the girls and the under 18's as this building is more secure than blyth

            Re: Accommodation Questions

mmm pub food, they do burgers of course?
you spent time with them before going to college?

hm... so blyth has no girls and is less safe, your not selling this to me. Basins are a plus (I make a bit of a mess when it comes to brushing my teeth )

              Re: Accommodation Questions

Yes, Here and Here are the locals.

Yes I am with the RFA so we have spent time together before here.

As for wash basins, the toilet/shower/brushing teeth facilities are shared between 10-12 people so is not normally an issue.

                  Just thought of another one.

If you lose your room during your sea phase what do you do with all your stuff clothes, laptop, mini fridge etc.

                  Thanks

                        Re: Accommodation Questions

Not all rooms in Blyth have a sink. IMHO Blyth accommodation is better than Shakleton, the rooms are bigger and the showers actually have a door rather then a curtain. Walls could do with being thicker though which would be an issue if you are close to the common room or the snooker room. The common rooms have microwaves and kettles - our foreign colleague try to cook eggs in the kettles and stuff whole raw chickens into the microwaves so approach with caution.....

You obviously haven't seen my room over in Shackleton... It's massive and has an amazing view
