  • size of room - dr winterbottom hall

Can anybody tell me how big the rooms are?

Do they really still have the old type of power socket and how much amp age is on offer

There was something about it in a previous thread but it sounded suspiciously untrue.

No irons, kettles, hot-plates, heaters or food grilles are to be used in
your room. These may be used in common rooms and utility spaces within
          the Halls.

Small drink coolers/chillers are permitted, providing they do not exceed a capacity of 20
          litres. So no fridges!

You may use only one British Standard approved four outlet running block with a maximum 13 amp fuse.

Visitors of the opposite sex may not enter the Halls at any time without the
express permission of the Student Residence Manager (or appointed agent).
These visitors must be met at the Security Office and after signing in, may
have access to the TV lounge, and Computer Suite where there is ample
room to study, socialise and congregate with friends until 23.00hrs, at which
time all visitors are required to leave the premises. - I wonder how strictly they enforce this...

getting permission to houseshare in phase 1 seems more appealing...

trinity - I think they would be pretty happy about me leaving halls based on my grand age as long as I was sharing with some other college students, the camaraderie factor

im just wondering what stationary i need now got all my stuff just need to find the stationary list got items like notebooks folders , dividers , pencils pens but dont seem to have been provided with a specific list

                edit found it
normal items of stationer , including paper and pens will be required for the first day of the course , and may be purchased from the student association of from shops locally . a non-programmable calculator is required.

other equipment such as drawing instruments and textbooks should be purchased after arrival and after seeking advice from tutors. the college does have a well equipped libary

I treated myself to some gel ink biros for taking engineering notes, red, black and blue

not sure we need dividers in electro, multimeter perhaps

but what would be your resistance to taking notes using that order

I have had a read at a PDF doc of the "rules and reg's" of the halls.... it does indeed sound like a prison.

I am hoping, that these rules are aimed at the under 18's. I've been to Uni and got a degree already and tbh, there were similar rules there, however not really enforced much - if at all in some cases. Fingers crossed this is the same, we are adults after all.
