I think out of all that the only item I will be taking is the laptop!

You will have your own room, size depends on which block your in.

The TV's ok to take and the 360 but dont expect online gameplay and remember you need a tv licence. Remember to take an aerial with signal booster.

Speakers and Amp? Not the best idea, could get you in trouble regarding noise levels.

              Re: Room Sizes

Just to clarify you only need a tv license to watch something at the time it is being aired.

So if you use a tv to watch dvds or games on only you dont need one.

If you use a laptop to watch iplayer after the showing of the programme you dont need one.

However, if you watch a programme on iplayer when it is actually being shown you DO!

Can I just point out that some of the info on this page is not quite correct:

                          Read the Act!

                          This bit
a person's residence includes any place provided for that person's private occupation.
                          http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2004/20040692.htm (part 2)
means you have to have one per room

In Part 1 of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1967, "television set" means any apparatus which (either alone or in association with other apparatus) is capable of receiving (whether by means of wireless telegraphy or otherwise) any television programme service but is not computer apparatus.

                          (2) In this regulation, "computer apparatus" means apparatus which -

                          (a) is designed or adapted to be used (either alone or in association with other apparatus) for storing or processing data, but not for doing so in connection with the reception by means of wireless telegraphy of television programme services; and

                          (b) is not offered for sale or letting as apparatus for use (either alone or in association with other apparatus) primarily for or in connection with the reception (whether by means of wireless telegraphy or otherwise) of such services;

                          and "processing" includes displaying.
...tying themselves in knots for no good (or justifiable) reason...

It's such a badly-draughted law... it doesn't even state that OfCom strictly regulates and licences frequency ranges, and that the range that TV signals fall within is unambiguous.

Listen to this fantasy makey-uppy stuff - thoughtcrime?!
It also makes it an offence for anyone to have any television receiver in their possession or under their control who intends to install or use it in contravention of the main offence (above), or knows, or has reasonable grounds for believing, that another person intends to install or use a television receiver in contravention of the main offence.

This is basically a lie... there's nothing in the Act that says this...
                          http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2003/uk ... 30021_en_1

Anyway, back to Earth for a moment...
One slight issue I just thought of was that what if one roommate wants to have a tv and pay a tv licence, and the other doesn't...
I personally object to the TV licence in principle, and only really watch iplayer and videos etc... so I don't want my roommate getting shirty because they've paid for one and I don't want to go halves on it.

I can't believe Beef1992 wants to take all that junk... I only wanted to bring an old desktop because my laptop is old and slow and it's more comfortable to type on a desktop (and easier/cheaper to replace bits of it).
I'd bring down the bare essentials and get anything extra posted to you after a couple of weeks of realising that other people might have brought down bits and bobs themselves - you may only need to bring down one of these things... I'm beginning to imagine every room having two xboxes and looking like a Sony Centre or Richer Sounds shop!

                            Re: Room Sizes/TV License

I thought i'd just clarify as well, if your in the Halls, every so often they will come round to check, they checked many times last year and the year before.
You can say all you want about how your not gonna watch Live TV on your TV but that don't matter, if they find a TV in your room and you ain't got a TV license then you will be fined. (TV license is only about ?12 a month tho)

                            Also on a personal note:
42 inch tv?! Thats a tad big for the halls is I say so!

You know you can get a portable short throw projector that will fit in a rucksack and give you a 90" screen - no licence necessary (no aerial). If you're that flush, lugging a great big flatty around seems daft.
