haha, how bad are they? What changes do you think you'll need to make?

I'll be there in September, I haven't seen them yet!

        Re: halls.

You have to remember they were built in the 60s, and so reflect the era.
Apparently it's all single occupancy rooms now, when I was there for my first phase it was the rules that you HAD to share.
Saying that, the accommodation in the halls was better than on some of the ships I've sailed on!

I think that rule still applies...

They're not the best. Always have hot water and heating though (due to boilers been broken and they can't turn them off during summer), you do get thermostats on the radiators though. Some rooms are not too bad a size (unless your in C block). You will probably have a bunk bed (even though its all single occupancy) and a wash basin and thats it. You can't make changes to the room except for putting up posters.

I think adding an attractive girl to your room would make your stay much more enjoyable

It definately would but getting one past security may be tricky. Bring a large suitcase.

It is a fair bit cheaper to stay outside the halls (and much better) but you need permission of your company. Most of the local letting agents will contact them anyway.

                          Re: halls.

I'm quite keen to rent somewhere for the 1st college phase and skip halls especially if its cheaper. I'm over 18 by the way.

But sponsors prefer you to be in halls to recreate the onboard atmosphere don't they?

                          on the right move website

you can get a room in a shared house inc all bills with sky tv and a cleaner for ?300/month or ?69/wk.

Renting a 1 bed flat is more expensive ?375/month excluding bills 2 bed flat for sharing with another student ?395/month so ?198 each again ex bills.

                            Re: halls.

It was, and I'd presume still is a college requirement for ALL phase 1 cadets to reside in the halls.
For subsequent phases you can live where you choose with age being no barrier - one of the lads in my class was 17 when he rented a flat with myself and a few others.
The only thing to remember is that the halls have a curfew of (I think) 2300 for all under 18s - not that it's ever enforced.

I think it's only phase 1 deck cadets that have to stay in the halls and those who are under 18.
                              A 2 bed flat is around ?450 a month.
