I was just wondering who will be starting at STC in September 2014? HNC/D of FD? Deck, Engine or ETO?

I hopefully will be starting there in September with Clyde Marine Training on the deck HNC course. Have accepted my offer from them and have just passed the Eng1 medical.

Congratulations! Yeah I'm doing the HNC Deck with Clyde, are you using the accommodation at the college?

Thanks and congratulations to you too. That's great, we may be in the same classes. Yeah I'll be using the college accommodation. Went to the open day over this weekend and had a chance to have a look at the accommodation.

Seems a good college, would you agree? I chose DFDS seaways, Northern Marine management, can't remember the 3rd. Which companies did you choose?

I chose DFDS Seaways, Caledonian Macbrayne and Royal Caribbean. Haha it was always worth a try for Royal Caribbean I suppose!

Was going to put RCI but was told I would be better off choosing another company. It's certainly worth a try putting them down. What area will you be coming from to start at the college in September?

NorthYorkshire so not far away. Will you be using college accommodation for phase 1?

Yeah, I'll be under 18 when I start, but after phase 1 and once I turn 18, I was thinking about using rented accommodation. If I like the college accommodation then I'll probably just stay there for a bit longer.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll be 18 when I start but staying in the halls will work out cheaper for the first college phase. Not sure about after that though.

Yeah, I'll be 16. Turning 17 around 2-3 weeks after the course starting.That simulator looked pretty good aswell!

I'm sure there'll be more of a similar age (16-18). Yeah that simulator was great, was quite realistic. Would say its one of the better simulators I've been in (better than the ones at warsash)

You won't see the simulators again until phase 5 now

Most people reckon it's cheaper to stay out of halls at shields, if you can find a few people to live with, the average rent per month is ?200 per person.... (3 bed for ?600, 2 bed for ?400 etc). Just now I pay ?220 a month for my flat including all utilities
