  • Don't use this colleges accomodation.

Well 22:45, in senoir officers block. Fire drill, to turf everyone out of the accomodation, because they think they smelt someone in a room smoking.

    Two big things here.

    1. Why did they not just look in their computer whos in that room, or knock on the door?

    2. Everyone in the accomodation block leaving due to the alarm, saw the occupant of that ground floor cabin, who openly admited it was his cabin, coming down the stairs from someone elses cabin, so it was impossible to say he was smoking at the time. He also openly admited, it smelt in there because of one week before, when he already got a warning from the head of accomodation.

Liturally congratulations for making this college look stupid to about hundred senior students.

Complain like hell to accommodation people tomorrow - unless it was an automatic fire alarm in which case well you don't really have an argument.

      Wasn't automatic.

Who do I complain to? Its the head of the accomodation who did it!

We have already been warned by the lecturers they are letting out rooms as half way house for people leaving jail. So be careful with valuables.

Just not amused, I'm sure the people who were already in their sleep wear were a lot more peeved!

Best way to complain is put other people off from going, then they might get the message, just like when this happened....

Goto accommodation office (presumably they have one) and ask for a copy of the complaints procedure - follow that - generally you'll get a response since they all have to be logged and recorded, plus if you go far enough eventually it will end up at someone high up.

But I wouldn't loose sleep over it.

They'd probably just lock you out of your cabin like they did to two people on my course for no reason at the beginning of the course. They had to get their company to threaten the admin not to do it again. Which is a point, might just phone the superintendant tomorrow, or even the director of the company as I have been dealing with him for my study contract.

That was a pun right, fire alarm waking people up and all. Haha.

When you pay a lot of money somewhere to study, you don't expect to be treated like dirt because your not a hair dressing or car mechanic student being funded by the goverment! All these little things start to boil under your skin when your trying to study for important exams!

That poster isn't the most ridiculous!!

In this one, the college likens its self to chlamydia, love it!! When I stayed their in phase 1 someone set it off with the deodorant etc at stupid o'clock, so it was automatic in F Block, I know they pretend C Block in senior marine, but it isn't really

They have automated alarms yes. But I came out my room to find one of the caretaker types setting it off manually in my corridor, and I asked him what he was doing, and he said he was just following his bosses orders.

Just found the complainst procedure it "should" take from 20-42 days to get a response from the level above the guy in charge of the accomodation. Should being the word they used in their terms and conditions. So by that point I would of gone.

As far as I can work out this is completely illegal, and in fact endangering safety causing fire drills when it was pitch black outside.

I'm paying to stay in this accomodation, they can't do anything with out hard evidence anyway. Totally rediculious.

That's ridiculous. Is that a block where under 18s and stuff are staying? Surprised that's allowed tbh.

I have been told it is D block by a lecturer, but my cabin doesn't face that way so I couldn't confirm that.

I done this to complain about problems I had with Glasgow's accommodation. With in a day of submitting everything I complained about was fixed. A week later I got an apology and a check for ?50.

The only people worth complaining to are the head of the marine school Gary Hindmarch http://www.linkedin.com/pub/gary-hindmarch/2b/2a0/2b2 and the principal of the college Lindsey Whiterod http://www.stc.ac.uk/content/governors/governing-body

Mike De Vies is the manager in charge of halls and soft services which seems to include food and the gym and hes probably listed as the person to complain to in the official procedures. He gets in trouble if there is a problem with the halls so its in his interest not to pass the complaints on to his boss Lindsey Whiterod, so worth skipping him and going straight to the top.

This is also the impression I get of him.
