I'm from Hartlepool, but I'm living in the halls for the entirety of my first phase. Are you driving or getting the train? If you're getting the train, you have to go to Heworth(I think?) then switch over to the metro back to South Shields then walk up from Chichester. It might be a pain
If you're driving, you shouldn't have too much of a problem, it's about 45mins-1hour if the roads are pretty clear.

Hi mate that was a badly worded post by me but thanks for the info. Im phase three and have lived in shields before but its prooving to be too costly this time with my car so im commuting via the car. However I have used public transport from shields to pools and found the bus to sunderland station then the train back to be both cheaper and quicker.

      Cheers

Just out of interest how long did your bus/train journey take? If I commute to South Shields its a 1 and a half hour trip each way door to door. Did you find that it cut into study/personal time too much or not? An annual metro pass costs a fraction of what halls do

From Hartlepool station to right outside the college took about 50 minutes, it was pretty quick and costs around ?35 a week which is quite expensive i thought, but cheaper than the rip off halls. I didnt really find that it did no, the first phase is quite simple (engine HNC) however I would not really recommend 3 hours a day commuting when the going does get tougher. It takes me around 40 minutes each way which is manageable, but I try and use free periods during the day to do any work.

Annoying thing is if I had a car it would be half an hour absolute maximum and even running that it likely to be cheaper than halls. I just don't see the point when I live so close. PLUS all the restrictions on halls just seem crazy

On the study time front, I did my second's in Warsash and travelled from Portsmouth every day, I used the time on the train / bus to study.
              Go out, do stuff

From my experience, living and studying on campus is far superior to living at home or somewhere else. Not only does it focus you, but the experience is a hell of a rollercoaster ride. Everyone is there for the same reason and you become a community. It also imagine it would be useful experience for our (hopefully our, not received an offer yet xD) futures at sea where we have to work, live and thrive in a confined space with the same people for extended periods of time.

If my application is successful, I will most definitely be looking to live on campus for as long as possible.
