  • Halls of Residence?

Hey guys, I'll be starting a Engine HND in September at South Tyneside. I've visited previously on the open day earlier this year, but unfortunately I didn't get chance to take a look around the accommodation blocks.
I was just wondering if anyone whose currently attending could tell me what to be expecting, as I'm finding it hard to get much information about them.
How large are the Study Bedrooms? And what is the situation with the showers/toilets in the blocks? I'm aware they are shared per floor, but does anyone know how many people per shower it is, etc..? Also, is there anything else I should know?

Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello mate. The rooms in the halls of residence are really dated, as are the common rooms. However, if you're in the outer blocks then the rooms are quite big. A few years ago the used to house 2 cadets per room, but this has since changed. Whilst I was in the halls they were renovating the toilets. Each floor as 3 toilet cubicles and there are 2 showers - for block's A, B, D and E anyway. The large block F is slightly different.

The centre block C are where the smaller rooms are. These are far too small, however they come with an aerial port for your tv (if you have one) whereas the other blocks do not. I was in block D, and I bought an Air aerial for my tv. Depending on the position within the building depends on the signal strength.

Hope this helps, if you have any other questions just pm me.

I wouldn't say that the rooms are that badly dated as such, but they are pretty basic. In my block you got a single, fairly uncomfy bed (not a million miles away from the ones onboard...), a desk with a chair and some shelves, a wee light and a window. Not a bad size, enough room to breakdance or get five or six people in to play cards.

Common rooms are again pretty basic; five or six pretty uncomfy chairs, a wee t.v, a kettle, sink, microwave and a fridge. Again nothin fancy but enough room to get a good 30 of you in at the weekend.

As rjlloyd says above, relatively new toilets wi three cubicles and two okay showers for each floor, so get up early, steal all the hot water and the bugger off for breakfast before anyone else gets up.

Just my little bit of input. I was in block C, although the rooms where small everything fit easily with room to spare. C block had the best internet of the whole halls even though every block has multiple wireless routers. F block has the largest rooms but the internet is terrible for what people have said.

There was one block, I forget which one, where you could get an unsecured network from outside the halls which was both much faster and unsullied with censorship.

Just thought i'd have an input. I was there for 6 months last year and I lived in "C" block however due to parties and what-not last year they have changed it to a "Seniors" only block. The internet is okay however they have introduced a mac address system where you have to give ur mac address to get on the internet, they have also put a lot of firewalls on and its not possible to get on 1channel or putlocker anymore

I was living in a small room and its not that bad, make sure you get one off the ground floor There is a sink and mirror but get a spare quilt and put it on top of the mattress otherwise you'll get back-aches. Anyway guys, see you in september, if I manage to get a room

p.s. I have some pictures somewhere, i'll get them up
