  • Fleetwood First Week

Hey guys I am doing this because it is close to the end of the first month I have been here and these are the things I have picked up on.

First when you arrive don't panic there are loads of people around to help you! If you are unsure go ask.

After you are finished panicking go to the table where you sign in. There you will get told to go to fill in some forms and go to the halls to get your cabin (room) for the next 3 months.

Once you have moved in go back to the Refectory where you signed in to take a tour of the campus (yes your parents can come to have a look around as-well).

After this parents generally leave and you go to the cafeteria to talk to people.

If you arrive on your own e.g with out family you are NOT on your own. If you see someone sat on there own go ask if you can have a seat and get to know them, also if you see more on there own invite them over and you will find the tutors will send people to go and sit with you, very quickly you have a table of about 20 cadets talking.

Around 1600 to 1630 you will move in to a large class room to meet your phase one tutors. Here you will do a few exercises to get to know people and the first of many team building exercises.

Once you are finished here at about 2000 go to the bar to meet the other cadets. If you are under 18 you are not banned from the bar they serve a good variety of non alcoholic drinks so go join in. (Tip don't get pissed today you have class tomorrow)

    MONDAY/TUESDAY(and probably Wednesday)

This will be form filling both days. You will get a tour of the local area and you will be told how to raise the flag and lower the flag as this is your job now.

    THURSDAY

Today you may fill out the odd form but most likely you will be with your tutor and they may go through key points of the merchant navy. today is also a good time to call home because its not so busy and every one is missing you by now.

    FRIDAY

By know you will know if you are going on the Cadet Development Course(CDC) or starting Short Courses. If you are going on CDC today you will be told what is going to happen and at 1200 you will be released to go pack for Monday. If you are doing the short courses you will be given information about that e.g where you go what to bring ect.

    WEEKEND

Here you are free to do as you please.

I really hopes this helps for anyone joining Fleetwood Nautical Campus!

It was! There could be cadets starting now who were born in 1997!

Like a good whiskey - I get more refined, distinguished and dare I say handsome with age

You are lucky you are with Maersk Mr Weasel otherwise you would be chipping old school style for an entire trip

Nice thread ekebergt. When you went on the career development course what did you need? I have the equipment list but I was just wondering if there was some things missing from the list or some things on the list that you didn't really need.
