Since we're starting in Glasgow very soon, I figured it would be interested to know what hobbies people have. If some people share a sport or hobby it might be good to know!

As for me, I'm fairly obsessed with tennis. Used to play a lot of guitar until I got bored of metal riffs and started listening to Nelly Furtado. I enjoy cooking.

This is a shot in the dark but are you also interested in Star Trek? I'm more of a Battlestar Galactica guy myself.

As for me I tend to keep busy cooking, jogging, poker-ing (?), and indulging in the odd t.v. box set, The Wire etc. Also breakdancing to some old skool hip hop beats. That's a lie, I cannot breakdance..............yet.

I'm not a huge fan of Nelly Furtado, I liked that song where she goes on about being a bird or something, but the one where she eats men just bored me.

P.S. I think I read in the accommodation paperwork that we can use the college gym for free! Anybody know if there's any truth in this? Or if the gym is any good?

Aye played a couple of times for the South team up in (down in your case!) Perthshire when I was 16 (quite a while ago). Still play in tournaments down here when I can. Got a mighty gubbing at Moffat SoS 2 weeks ago in the mens doubles (give me a singles court and get out of my way) . Will be joining one of the clubs as soon as I get up, probably Western. They do student membership for ?80ish which is alright. Normally ?300ish.

As for golf - forget it!

Read that the gym is free too, as long as the sports students ain't using it.

As for moving up, I'm there as of next Thursday!

Naaatan - never watched Battlestar. I watch Star Trek for the Gorn and 7of9.

Sounds like youre pretty good. Im a singles player more than a doubles player too. Give me a shout when we start and i will give you a match. I will be there on the 5th of September.
Do you have an LTA rating? Did you ever play at a competition called Kilgraston? Im looking into joining a tennis club in Glasgow too. Being from so far up north i have no idea which one is best.

Aye I'm on the LTA site but I've got no tournaments next to my name (Moffat was my first LTA tourney since 2001..I took a few years out!) so I'm a 10.1. I should be up in the 9's because a 10.2 start is for juniors but I think it's because they changed the ratings system years ago when everybody started lower. Ratings system is a mess anyway...I played the guy ranked #1 on LTA Scotland (not the pros like Murrays or the Davis Cup lot - they aint listed) and he laughed when I mentioned it and said it was a farce.

He gubbed me 6-0 6-0 by the way so as far as I was concerned LTA were bang on. I barely saw the ball.

Yep it was Kilgraston I played at. Do you still get to stay in the creepy girls school? That was weird...good lasagne though.

Theres a few good clubs in Glasgow. I've had a tour around Western and that's the one I'm going for, but Hillhead seems nice too. They are across the road from each other. There is a club on the South Side (Queens Park i think) but I got a few mates in the west anyway and I used to live there so I'm happier with that.

Yea I'm def up for a hit when we get up. Give me a PM.

Was he called Stephen Annis? Hes from the Highland District Tennis Squad. Hes number 3 in Scotland overall behind Andy Murray and a boy call Keith Meisner supposedly. Havent seen him for ages. Theres 4 indoor tennis courts less than 100 yards from the college if you want to just go for a hit when we start. Yeah that girls school was weird eh? haha! How far from college is Western?

Indoor courts? Sounds good (and fast!). I'm up for that if we can get in. Is that the Glasgow Club ones? I'm sure I checked that out a while ago and it seemed good - have to pay for a council 'pay as you go' membership though. Might be cheap for students. Western is in Hyndland which is a part of the west end of Glasgow (http://tinyurl.com/34hu5wv). You can get a train there(ish) from Argyle Street or a subway to Hillhead/Partick from Bridge Street. Is a bit of a distance but not so bad. I'll be out there most nights anyway.

Na it wasn't Stephen Anniss. Just checked out Keith Meisner - he's 3rd in Scotland the now. The guy I'm talking about (I'm not going to embarrass the guy for when he next googles his name..) is now 2nd but I think it might be at a different level? I'm confused - Anniss has a rating of 6.1 where the guy I played was in the 5.somethings. But he doesn't appear in the same 'list' as Andy Murray for Scotland as the 'county'. I think they must mix national level and county (scotland) level for an overall score. Jamie Baker isn't 2nd in Scotland as you would assume being just under AM (he's not even there as far as I can see) but he's 2nd nationally.

                    Re: Hobbies

The Gorbals Leisure Centre is crawling distance away from the halls and college. You dont need a membership, pay as you go, and its cheap for students too. Spoke to a guy there yesterday. They do classes and have a gym and everything. Seems like a really good place for the students to use if the college facilities cant cater for their needs.

I hate the way the LTA ranking and rating systems are so confusing sometimes.

Keith Meisner is awesome. He used to coach me, his family live like 10 miles away. Saw him like 2 weeks ago. I played at Kilgraston with Stephen Annis representing the Highland District under 17s. Hes got better since then though.

How old are you? When do you start college?

Ah I'll have a look at their site for some info - that sounds ideal as long as you got folk to play!

I'm couple of months off 26. Kilgrasten was 1999. A while back! Didn't know it was still going...

Start college 23rd but move up sometime next week. Yourself? I've already found you on the LTA site btw....ain't too many Zacks where you come from....

Last time I was in college it was actually worth paying the membership for the Glasgow Club if you were going to use the facilities at least three times a week as it worked out cheaper. Not so sure about now but it might be worth bearing in mind.
