  • St lukes accommodation compulsory?

    Hi guys.
I received my joining instructions through the week for August and it looks as if all phase 1s have to stay in the halls of residence, however in another form it sais that you can apply for accommodation if you need it.
I live 10-20 minutes from Glasgow (no issues with travelling up everyday) and I am 21. Do I have to stay in the halls of residence? Not exactly a deal breaker or anything, il stay if i have to. Can anyone clarify? Cheers.

Speak to your sponsor company. If you make them aware of how close you live to college, they'll probably be more than willing to let you commute in daily.
Pointy bit is the front, blunt bit is the back... Simples!

    Will work for money/sea time.

I lived in Paisley when I was at college,I would advise you to stay there for at least the first phase just so you can interact with everyone and get to know people more. Nothing worse than everyone in the pub on a friday wanting to go out and you have to go home and change then come back to the city, at least do it for your first phase !. Also it means you can wake up 15mins before college starts :P.

I'm 30 and with CMT. I asked if I could just live at my flat through phase 1 and it wasn't a problem. Just had to fill in a form saying I wasn't going to be a naughty boy.

Are you engine or deck? What's the start date? I'm on holiday in Ireland at the moment so have not received anything yet. Guinness really is better over here!

I sent my application on Friday and paid my deposit/advance payment yesterday. I asked on the phone if accommodation was full because I seen the post you are referring to and they said no.

I think you'd be a fool to not stay in the halls! It's a vital part of the experience and you'll get a massive shock when you go to sea as you'll be used to the home comforts! Plus, as has been said before, the social side of things is pretty important too!

I've finally saw sense and iv sent away my application and deposit for the accommodation now, definitely makes sense to stay there and as everyone sais here - its an experience. Hopefully I get a place since I called up the other day and they said there are very few spaces left

Did you manage to get a spot in the halls?

Just called them up today - won't be able to get into the halls before the start date on the 18th because there are international students staying in the halls at this moment in time. But I might be able to get in around September/october if some drop out

I thought that Halls were guaranteed for phase 1 cadets? If I couldn't get in to halls and it meant I couldn't accept an offer, I'd be p'd off to say the least!
Anglo-Eastern Cadet sponsored by DAO Shipping. I also like steam engines.

I was told today that I would have to wait until Engineering students were given accommodation so that they knew how many rooms were available.

UPDATE: Looks like I'll have to travel into Glasgow for the first month until they have a room for me on the accommodation. Sh*te.
