    Re: St Lukes

Just signed the lease agreement for self-catered. I hear it's supposed to be alright. Everything you need in your room, with ensuite. 5/6 people to a flat. Generally they try to place people who are of similar age/course in the same flats. And reasonable kitchen tools to cater for 5/6 people.

As for the internet I just read in the contract that you have to sign another agreement for terms of use........probably things like "no scat porn" and "keep your dirty mitts off BitTorrent" etc. I'll double check to see if they charge you a one-off connection fee when you move in.....I know some student halls do.

It would be nice to see some pics of the place from somebody though.

I got my lease through this morning, gonna send it away for tomorrow. I've been looking for pics too but can't seem to find any, but I've been speaking to a few mates and they all say that the rooms and flats are pretty good.

I've had to pay from the 15th coz I can't move in on the 22nd

Rrr man that sucks! Will you be there for a whole week on your own?

Im still struggling to come up with the cash for the first months rent. Looks like ill have to go into debt Sucks the way SSTG's cadets get their first rent sorted and Clyde's don't. Ahh well, should be grateful we get anything I suppose.

            Re: St Lukes

It says in the agreement that 'partys/gatherings' are not permitted.

What constitutes a gathering? I think putting 5 people in the same flat counts as 'gathering' in itself.

True but only one weeks pay. Better than a kick in the gooch I suppose.

Not sure yet. I've got a few mates in Glasgow anyway so I could always just stay and catch up with them all for a week.

                      Re: St Lukes

The security dude used to come around if he thought we were being too noisy or if he thought there was to many people in the flat but it wasn't too much of a problem. When I was there we all used to gather in one flat then head over to Sharkey's for a swift one before heading into town.

The internet can be slow at times, especially at fourish when everyone has just knocked off from college. It's an asdl connection and I remember you had to pay for a special plug but if you keep a hold of it you can take it with you. Some sites are blocked but I know you can get around the firewall although that was for hte more technically minded students.

Close 1 was always known as the officer block so it was generally full of people doing their mates/masters courses and is a bit quieter. The flats there also have a laminate floor in the living room and a sofa, compared to a smelly, wierdly stained carpet and horrible chairs in all the other flats.

The halls are not standing up to wear and tear well, I was last there about eighteen months ago and our flat was disgusting. I had to get them to take in cleaners to give the whole place a good scrub down and the walls were all cracked, door locks were knackered and the power would trip out if you used a specific socket in the kitchen.

When you arrive you will be given an inventory list which and you have to check everything and hand it in. Make sure you double check everything and chase up anything that is missing as when you leave, if there is anything outstanding it will be taken off your deposit.

Be very careful about leaving the close door open. Always, always pull it behind you when you come in and out and if you use the back door, make sure it closes too. There is nothing more annoying than the fire alarms going off in the middle of the night because some little ned has seen a door ajar and run in too set the alarm off. You will not be allowed back in until the fire brigade has cleared the building. If they are being particularly thourough then they will check every flat and room and many of my mates have been caught not bothering to come down.

Last time I was there one of the Nigerian students was stabbed right outside the wardens door! He was OK, but the people who did it were never caught despite the whole place being covered by cctv cameras. Remeber as well, its not just cadets that go to GCNS, there are beauty therapists, sports scientists, media students and a whole other variety of people so you might not be sharing with other cadets.

Don't expect luxury and you won't be dissappointed.

Just realised when looking at the Lease i got sent yesterday. We have to pay for Accommodation during college holidays when i guess most people will head home. That is a total piss take I think.

We have to pay ?552 in accommodation fees untill our first full wage at the end off September. That is 2 weeks worth in August and 4 weeks in September .
