  • Resit rip off

Glasgow have been ripping off guys in my class for resits and reenroling. You should only pay ?20 per unit credit not the hundred odd they have been charging. Check student diary page 41 if this affects you

Aye, but how many credits is each unit worth?
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

Pass first time and there are no resit costs to worry about..............exams ain't that hard

Wouldn't come as a shock to me if Glasgow were ripping off their students though!

Oh aye, I actually remember raising a similar question about costs back when O/C was in it's infancy.

Has anyone actually tried raising the reason for these costs in a constructive way with the college?

Happened to guys in my class they got charged 100+ pounds per unit. it was later found in the colleges code the charge should be ?20 per unit. They are now arguing with the college to follow it's own rules.

You had better hope your performance is perfect from here on out after such a crass comment.

I thought most units were worth between 10 and 30 credits depending on the topic/course studied.

Didn't mean to come across as crass but passing first time = no resit costs, FACT.

My experience so far with exams has been that they are not that difficult and the lecturers at Glasgow give you a lot of hints as to what the content of the exam will be. There are varied reasons for people failing exams, stress, bad performance on the day, poor lecturing, not studying enough,stupidity....I am not sure what category these people come into but I do hope they pass next time.

Considering some of the comments more senior memebers post on this forum that coud be considered crass, rude etc I am sightly bemused.....

That's fine for the internal college exams. Doesn't necessarily hold true for SQA or MCA exams. Presumably the PD final exams are set by the SQA or another outside authority? Certainly the MCA written exams are different to what you are used to and the failure rate is quite high.

You have completed one college phase, you still have much to learn. When you have a Chief's ticket with a clean pass record you can tell us "exams ain't that hard".

Fair enough, but my understanding was that this thread was about people failing internal College Exams not SQA or MCA exams so.....

I don't have a clue about PD Final exams, I got my HNC this year and do my HND next year but its just a project, then final Phase for PD is just management type courses mostly. I am aware that MCA written exam rate failure is high, I figured PD gave you exemptions from most of them though, for the moment at least.

I except I have a lot to learn, right now I am at Sea and am enjoying learning on the job more than being at College. Nobody is perfect and nobody can know everything, we all learn something new every day usually.

Not to mentions glasgows bad timing skill. Three exams a week(more if you had resits) for a month. One day i had an exam in the morning had to go to my companies office for vacinations at lunch then back to college for another exam in the afternoon.

to be honest we are getting a bit side tracked my reason for posting was to let anyone who had paid for a resit know they may be due a refund.

I am an Engineer cadet at Glasgow so nothing you say shocks me mate, they aren't the most organised bunch! I still haven't finished my Engineering Drawing Course from Phase 1 even though we had plenty time to slot it some extra hours!
