    Re: Facilities

    Bugger all.

How that's changed now that it's part of the City of Glasgow College, I don't know. There might be access to facilities on the other campuses, but they are not very conveniently located relative to the GCNS site. Fortunately, being in the centre of Glasgow there are plenty of other public facilities within easy reach. Gorbals Leisure Centre for gym, swimming pool, etc. (The college does have its own pool, gym and sports facilities but I'm not sure they are available for individuals to use http://www.gcns.ac.uk/about/college_fac ... nd_fitness). Shops in the Gorbals are only a few minutes walk away and Sharkey's is the traditional cadet pub but you are five minutes walk from central Glasgow.

        Re: Facilities

This part of the website should provide you with the information. Judging by the detail there, this is what happens on most college open days.

        http://www.gcns.ac.uk/news/202_merchant ... reness_day

The date of the last one was 20th November 2010, I would assume the next will be around that time again although the date hasn't been announced yet.
Anyone here at GNCS? Can provide inside info on this?

          Re: Facilities

Close to the college there is a co-op, newsagents, takeaways, a bank machine, etc. THis may have changed since i was there but i imagine not much. The city centre is a short walk away and that has pretty much everything. The strathclyde university student union can be used by us and your student card will get you in there. Theres a few bars in there.

P.S. Sharkeys sucks. Possibly the worst pub. I used to take the extra 5 minutes to walk to osmosis in the city centre.

It's a dive. But Glasgow has worse, much worse.

I'll give you that one haha.

Sharkeys could be so much better. With over 100 fresh students every september they could be raking it in but nope lol

                Re: Facilities

I've had a lot of fun in Sharkey's over the years, I think the fact that it is a dive and a total old man pub is part of it's charm!

When i was in college the swimming pool used to be open to the students at certain times and we used to be able to take advantage of the beauty students for manicures, waxing etc which is exactly what you guys will be after no doubt! I have no idea whats changed now that the colleges have all merged though.

Have to stick up for Sharky's it's reasonably priced, and the food they do in the afternoons is quite good for pub grub.
Wouldn't recommend it for an actual night out, but for a few social drinks after college or starting off the night after Friday it's just fine

One of the girls I worked with is now City of Glasgow College student president (: Emma Iwanow, awesome girl. Or woman actually.

Also, I never saw food served in Sharkeys!

We used to go there at 12 when we finished on Fridays, and they sell food, there's a space near the entrance to the guys toilet, at the far side from the entrance with a table, where you place your orders and they bring it out, always quite a few students and professional looking people, i'm assuming employees form the fiscal office right beside it.
