Don't have any pics to hand, but for Catered, think Prison. You have a breeze block room with a small sink and that is it. It was originally built as temporary accommodation in the 60's and it's still there. If you are under 18 you are required to live there and you have a curfew of 2200.

Self-Catered isn't too bad. You get a room, en-suite and you all share a kitchen. No curfew or any of that balls. Overall, St. Luke's is alright, but Id stay well clear of catered. We call it Alcatraz for a reason....

ok, probably hasn't changed much although it may have as from what I understand halls of residence at STC are getting upgraded soon, I am just trying to find out as much as I can before I start as I live 5mins away from STC and because I live so close SSTG would like to send me somewhere that is away from home so that I can get used to being away.

As above. I have stayed in both. St Lukes the self catered is better than the catered in every single way.

Don't have any pics but St Lukes is part of the same building as a premier inn and the rooms are quite similar to that which you'd find in said hotel. Quite big (some even have double beds) and you get your own shower and toilet. SSTG pay for your accomodation anyway so the cost difference doesn't matter either.

I'm in self catered just now, Jan intake, and it's as really nice, bedrooms are quite like hotels, with light switches by beds etc...
If you've been in any student halls owned by UNITE it's just like them, kitchen is quite nice aswell, though the grill on the cooker is crap

                    Re: GCNS Accomodation

Just contact Halls of Residence, in my case they contacted me after SSTG confirmed my place, with the application form for Self Catered attached, but as I understand there are to seperate application forms for the different halls.

Either way, your best bet is to just drop them an e-mail: [email protected]

thanks tempest for that email adress I will give them a email when I have more info off SSTG (should be in the next couple of days) and I will ask them about which halls would be best. kind of hoping self catered now because I've Hearn nothing but bad thing about the catered halls.

Tempest what SSTG sponsor company are you with.if you don't mind me asking.

Indeed the STC halls are being upgraded and its most likely going to take a while at this rate. was not allowed in my room for 2 days due to abestos removal . but only from 9-5 apparently after 5 it was safe to go in , tell that to someone when some guy has just came out in a Hasmat suit with a resperator . they padlocked the toilets to keep the asbestos out and then demolished our Showers in the process putting a hole in someones room's wall with a Jack hammer. now we have no toilets or showers on our floor for the past few weeks and no work has been done since they were stripped
                        Maybe I will never be

But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why

I am at STC now but not doing a marine course and was unaware that any work had been started.but my college lecturer has kept saying that they are trying to improve the residence halls but they have been saying this for years from what I gather.

Does the curfew apply to everyone in the halls or just under 18s? I'm 25 start glasgow in september if I stay in halls or self catered will I be the only guy my age there?
