Jan '15 start @ Glasgow - Uniforms

Hi all,

Apologies in advance for repeating a question here. I read a similar quesiton to this one before, but for the life of me I can't find it again now that I need it!

Question: I have received two conflicting documents with regards to what exact uniform items we will be given and what we need to buy ourselves. As such, can anyone who is due to start at Glasgow on 19th Jan enlighten me as to what exact clothing we need to provide ourselves? Also, are we expected to turn up on Day 1 in uniform, or is it acceptable to wear "street" clothes on the first day, given that Clyde won't have issued kit yet?

Any help would be most appreciated.

Hi,

I was on the phone to Chris at Clyde Marine not long ago. I believe we will be given two pilot style white shirts, a navy jumper and epaulettes. We have to provide dress trousers and dress shoes. Preferably black.

We will not be given our uniform on day one and will most likely receive it within the following couple of days. I asked him the same question about what clothing to wear before we get our uniform, formal clothing should be worn, basically the same as the uniform minus the jumper, white shirt and tie dress trousers and smart shoes.

If you have any queries you should phone Clyde they are happy to answer any questions. Well if you are with them.

Basically what the guy above said. I started in September and for the first week or two, no one had the uniform (nato jumper etc) so we just wore a shirt, tie, black shoes and black trousers.

I just bought a NATO jumper and my epaulettes, also any of you guys doing the SPD ??

Yup, white shirt, black tie (or company tie), black trousers, black shoes day 1.

Recommend buying more shirts (I have 6, 1 each day and 1 spare) and an extra set of epaulettes so you dont have to swap them about if you take your jumper off. I prefer wearing the pilot shirts etc but a lot of people just stick to normal white shirts.

Slaters do good trousers and if you say its for the nautical college they know exactly what your looking for.
