  • Watch keeping certificate

I am currently nearing the end of phase 2 in my cadetship, so far I have just over 5 months seatime. By the end of my current trip I will have well over 6 months.

Can I apply for my watch ratings certificate just now? I've looked up online and read the relevant MGN and MIN but it only tells me what courses, seatime etc I need to apply. It doesn't really say much more than that.

I completed my EDH in my first phase in college so I would need the college to issue me with my certificate for that before I can apply also. I would like to have all this now as my company say they might manage to get me some work as an EDH in my spare time when I'm not onboard as a cadet.

Any help would be very much appreciated 😀👍

Someone correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure EDH requires 12 months sea time to be issued

It does. However I think most colleges put you through the course in Phase 1 and then when you have the sea time ie phase 5 they can issue the certificate
Dont just dream, Go and do it!!

Amazingly, the MCA have dropped it to 6 months, and I think a further six for AB.

Edit: MIN471 refers. Still 12 months after EDH for AB.

Wow that must be new then. It was 12 months last summer when I did it. Where I did it were strict about the requirement as well as we had a couple of guys who had just under the requirement by a couple of days and they couldn't do the course.
