  • Download sites/hard drive help

Just got myself an external hard drive, anybody know a way to get dvd's on the thing, am I just a cretin or ar there more powerful forces at work trying to stop me. Also could anybody point me in the direction of a good download site that wont destroy my laptop.

    Any series recommendations welcome, cheers

Hey, best thing to do would be to torrent them. (although slightly frowned upon)
First download uTorrent, then go to piratebay (find a working link on proxybay if your isp blocks it). Next type the film/series you want and click 'SE' to find the one with the most seeders. The more there are the faster the download will take. Once you've found what you want simply click the green 'Get this torrent' link next to the magnet.

Some great series are Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, The Wire, True Detective, Dexter, Misfits, The Sopranos etc.

If you have any problems feel free to pm me.

plug it in, drag and drop! I hear handbrake is a suitable program for copying dvs like that, and there are various notable sites about if you'd prefer a different approach...

On chrome, I use an extension called Zenmate to get on location blocked websites such as pandora and piratebay - lets you set your location out of a few different places, which means you'd be able to get on BBC iplayer from anywhere if you really wanted to!

If you want to rip and compress DVDs DVDShrink is pretty good.

If you want to rip and turn them into AVIs Freemake is better but takes longer

Freemake provides quality freeware - Free Video Converter, Free Video Downloader, Free Audio Converter. Download and convert any video or audio free and in two clicks!

DVD Passkey lite will sit in your system tray and enable you to play DVDs minus their protection

Passkey Lite, works as a free DVD Decrypter and Blu-ray decrypter, is a simple combination of Passkey for DVD and Passkey for Blu-ray.

Be warned, don't try and get loads of stuff onto your hard drive 2 days before you sail, it takes time!

Think of the poor souls who work in tv and film, scratching a living out one DVD at a time, they need to make a living too.

Sorry, the only pirates I know of are those terribly unfriendly Somali chaps.

Media player works for ripping DVD's. And I think universal(?) has recently rolled out a digital copy that's included with every new DVD? Don't quote me on that though.

Also - it might be an idea to disguise your... *ahem* manly entertainment folder, just in case you get stopped by the authorities.
Pointy bit is the front, blunt bit is the back... Simples!

                        Will work for money/sea time.

For this you could use Truecrypt. There's some hoo-haa recently about it having been broken by the NSA but I'm sure that the American Government isn't particularly interested in your hard dsik.

I thought tryecrypt had been taken offline, and that the creators were advising people to migrate over to bitlocker?
