    I'm an ex Trinity House cadet and ETO and there were 3 of us who qualified in 2013 and all were offered jobs by Carnival UK, although I chose an oil company.

    In terms of support, I can only compare the training administrators Chiltern who look after TH cadets to their equivalents Clyde and SSTG and I'd say they're better than Clyde perhaps about the same as SSTG.

    I found the cadet training as a charity cadet to be quite a mixed bag compared to the oil company cadets I see now and the Carnival guys I spoke to while on the course, so in terms of training it might be worth applying to Carnival (Hatchorder mentioned there were still ETO vacancies for the Sept intake) but bare in mind you're contractually engaged to them for 2 years. If you're keen to get into offshore work, which is where the best ETO money is, then some of the Clyde and SSTG sponsors seems the best route in.

    The mods will probably recommend you change your username or make this anonymous as companies are known to view this forum.

      As an ex TH cadet I can't sing their praises enough, yes you don't get a job with them at the end but they will expose you to many companies and you can then choose which one most suits you with the benefit that you have sailed on one of their vessels.

      I would echo the above that you should remove your name and just bear in mind that since I went through companies are getting more picky on who they employ and you have been accepted by one of the more respected names in the industry.

        I wasn't going to take the TH interview initially, I already had a good offer, so I decided to on a whim, and I'm rather glad I did now, looking at what people have had to say about them, and my dealings with them, so far! Most companies don't actually guarantee jobs at the end of the 3 years, due to market fluctuation and demand and whether the planets are in the correct alignment, so it's about as good as most in that sense - and if you live up to the reputation of a TH cadet, sounds like you'll be into work fairly swiftly!

          I think I should comment on this point. While its true for deck and engine cadet ships, three of the ships TH sent me too didnt employ ETOs so there was no chance of a job with them at the end, but theres definitely a lot of junior ETO jobs out there.

          As I said above, if you want to get an offshore job straight after qualifying, then you won't have the right skills from the TH ETO cadet ship, but you're fine for junior roles on cruise ships, tankers, ferries etc.
