Hi. I've just heard from my sponsoring company Gulf Offshore that I'll be going to sea for the first time on Monday for 2 months. I just wondered what other peoples experiences were offshore for the first time and if you've got any experience with gulf offshore. Thanks

I'm not with Gulf personally, but my tutor at South Tyneside was, and they sound like a good bunch. I'm offshore as well, so hopefully I'll be heading off soon like.Ex-South Shields Cadet

Never been with Gulf, but presently working offshore, or at least for an offshore company.
Take plenty of seasick pills with you and if they don't work eat jam sandwiches.
You will probably be spending a lot of time on deck, listen to what people tell you about safety and follow it.Go out, do stuff

Remember they'll probably be no good once you start being sick, so if the feeling is there, get some from the Mate. Also if you are sick, stay hydrated, small amounts at a time, same with any food. I always found eat before sleep because I was never sick when lying down. And by the time I was up again it was digested. If you can't laugh, you shouldn't have joined!!
