Are there any Bibby students knocking about on here?

Just wondering how you thought the admin of your cadetship was or is going? Any issues I should watch out for? Whats the sea time like? where did you go?

Generally, how would you rate your experience as a Bibby student?

Cadetship is going well, the ships are all great and they pay attention to what you are doing on ship and how the ships crew and officers are treating you.

With sea time, my first trip was good (4 months and a few days), my second trip (2 months and a few days) i would have liked to have been longer as it means i have more to do this time (about 6 months to do in 9 months)

1st trip, Container Ship; Singapore, Port Kelang, Chennai, Vizaktinam, Port Kelang, Singapore.
(2 week circle for 4 months)

2nd trip, Ro-Ro; Southampton, Ascension Island, Falklands, Rio, Bahamas, USA, Scotland, Southampton (2months)

Overall; Good. 7.5/10

Yep i start in september at warsash, all very sudden, 1 weeks notice for an interview and then offered it before i left the building Where are you doing your training?

I just got offered a cadetship with bibby, either tyneside starting next week (aaah!) or warsash starting jan. id prefer warsash but she said she migh tbe able to get me on the sept one.

Im a little wary of being offered it so easily!

Does anyone know how the pay rates compared to other companies? and is there any benefit to warsash over tyneside. i did a bit in the navy so I think Id prefer warsash.

Also does anyone know about fast track routes? as I have a mech eng degree and 3 years back at uni seems a bit daunting!

STC v WMA is a subjective one... current comments I've seen are that STC has a bigger workshop with more variety of stuff to work on, and a better nightlife; Warsash is reported to be better run, a bit larger, and a bit more modern. So it kind of depends on your priorities...

You might feel more "at home" at Warsash judging by what I've seen people say (but the RNR is easier to get to from STC if that matters to you).

Fast track Engine (Mech Eng) is possibly offered by Carnival, and maybe even by the Viking flotilla of sponsors.
You may be able to negotiate on the basis of APL with some companies, for example if you were offered going to a uni like LJMU, Plymouth, or Greenwich, but there are no reports of the chances of success with that.

If it's Bibby, you may get placed with Foreland because of your background. They're possibly quite keen on you if you're ex RN with a mech eng degree... have you applied to anyone else?

You're not alone with the mixed feelings about returning to uni, there are plenty on here for whom it's not the first time at uni/college. Swings and roundabouts... every type of background brings strengths and weaknesses.
