You'll hear a lot of jokes about them, but that's all they primarily are, jokes. They are one of the biggest cadet sponsors with Clyde Marine, but sadly they don't take on very many cadets at the end. From what I remember my classmates telling me, the ones they do take on they tend to look after rather well, as in training them both for work at sea and some work shoreside, that way you have both perspectives.

Anywho, at least you have a sponsor....

About a third of my class got sponsored by Zodiac, the vast majority really enjoyed it. They have quite a few types of ships, people ended up on container vessels, car carriers, bulkers etc. you seem to go all over the world too.

I did my cadetship with Zodiac, found it quite challenging at times but really enjoyed it. If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to answer them.

What did you find challenging about working for them?

                Nothing wrong with chicken.

Depends what part of the chicken it is. Bit of grilled breast? Lovely. An incinerated chicken's foot? Not so nice. Yes I am speaking from personal experience. Not with Zodiac though.

On topic I had several mates with Zodiac. Seemed like a fairly typical tonnage tax company from what they said. Ok training depending on the crew but pretty much no chance of a job at the end. Decent variety of ships and you'll go all over the place. All seemed to be on with other UK cadets which is obviously good. Think the crews are mostly eastern European/Russian.

Yeh mate can't agree with you more they really don't care about the cadets tbh !. Yeh you training will depend on the crew ! I had one ship the 2nd mate refused to allow me to touch anything on the bridge only told me to look how the window ! Don't know how you are supposed to learn how to navigate by there you go. Another ship had a brilliant second mate and he basically let me do the watch myself!. The ships are not bad and I done a fair bit of traveling !. I was quite lucky and most of my chiefs let me go a shore in pretty much all the ports. I was always on with other cadets and once was on with 5 other British cadets. Zodiac have ships that the only send the British cadets on and other ships they only send the other cadets so you will never sail with foreign cadets. Yeh zodiac is generally Eastern European,Chinese,Indian & Russian officers & crew. At the end of the day you just get on with it and I enjoyed my time with them just don't expect it to be amazing !
