First ship: Arklow Wind

One of the Deckhands on my last ship was with Arklow Shipping for a while and he recommended it as good company. You'll have some nice trips, 2 or 3 days at sea followed by another 2 or 3 in ports all around Europe. Most of their ships do bulk cargoes but there are a few ones that do general and containers as well. I am actually considering asking them for a job once I have my ticket, but we'll see.

Very handy tool when researching ship. You have to register but it's free.

Arklow Wind: -
IMO: 9287314
Built: 2004
Flag: Ireland
DWT: 13777
Managers: Arklow shipping in Ireland
Possibly due for drydocking soon (no promises, rough guess)
Last PSC inspection threw up two deficiencies, one related to the fire plan and the other HoR, so nothing overly major.
Bloody horrible colour of ship though.

Hey George,
Arklow are a good company, worked for them for a number of years. Vessels are all coastal bulk carriers operating mainly near Continental, but if your lucky the vessels sometimes wander stateside, and often to Iceland and Northern Russia. The Arklow Wind is the W class, I think 14,000 GT vessels.... personally havn't sailed on this class but on the M class which are very similar in construction..... As a first trip cadet you will on day work with the bosun and crew carrying out general maintenance onboard.
Hope this helps!

First ship: Arklow Wind
Hi All,
Today I was informed of my first ship, which is to be the M.V. Arklow Wind. I'm over the moon, and now counting down the days until I can get onboard!
I was hoping anyone with experience or knowladge of the company or the vessels could give me any interesting or useful infomation other than that which I've been able to garner from the company website.
I'm trying to learn all that I can about her at the moment, firstly so loved ones at home know a little more of what I'll be doing, and secondly in hopes of making a good first impression.
Thank you all very much for the time,
