    Evening all,
I'm doing the PD deck course and currently struggling with Chartwork. Does anyone know any good sites for tutorials or guides on how to do it?

    Hello ReeceM!

Could you identify exactly what it is you are struggling with?

Chartwork is available on the left hand column of this link - http://www.seamanshiptutor.com/index.html

Chartwork is also available on the top drop-down menu of this link - http://www.mcaorals.co.uk/

Let us know if you need any more help.

    Thanks,

      Hi Reece,

What specifically are you struggling with? We might be able to chip in bits and pieces here and there!

If you can get the Admiralty Manual of Navigation (Vol. 1) it shows pretty much everything, but it can be difficult to follow and includes lots of things that aren't on the OOW syllabus.

Let us know and I'm sure we can pitch in.

Whilst not a helpful comment, I do believe that the HND style cadetship of 6 weeks basic training and straight to sea does have the added benefit that you can learn the basics in a practical environment at your own pace first before going to college. Chartwork is far simpler to teach on a ship whilst sailing then in a classroom.

That assumes that the officers on the ship are A) interested in training the cadets and B) Actually know how to do chartwork. Apart from plotting the position from gps and radar fixes I never saw any other aspects of chartwork being done by the officers during my cadetship.
