  • Atlantic explorer, mol shipping, crude oil tanker.

Has anyone spent any time on the above vessel? It looks as though that's where i'm going to be spending my next sea phase.

Whilst i'm here and on topic, does anyone think it would be a good idea to have an individual section, whereby people could post what ships they have been on and therefore give some advise for anyone joining the same vessel?

I just think speaking to someone who's been on a ship your about to join, can give you some good advice and therefore a good head start when it comes to things like crew, responsibilities, ship facilities etc.

    Who agrees?

Whilst I think it is good in part I don't think it will work. Every time you have a new Captain or Chief Engineer you will get a different set of duties. You could also get different duties depending on the run the ship is on or even the time of year.

This is why I think it would not work.

    Sorry,

    Ian

It's a good idea in theory, problem is that you'll find your colleagues probably don't like to be talked about on a rather anonymous internet forum!

It's absolutely fine to post where you've been and where you're going and discuss things via PM, but doing it publicly is dodgy territory.

I understand what you saying and I suppose I agree to some extent.

However, i'm not talking specifically about engine room duties, but more about things which are SO difficult to find out from anywhere else. Questions I'd like to ask to anyone who has been on the above vessel are things like, will I have my own cabin, will I have regular internet on board, is there a gym, am I provided with boiler suits or do I need to bring my own etc. etc.

I understand this information may be readily available for cadets who are with lets say, Carnival, BP, Maersk, P&0 etc. because there is bound to be another cadet that your in college with who can give you the answer. But for people like myself, going on a random ship, its so difficult to find out any information which makes preparing for sea a lot more stressful! Especially when I spent my first trip on a small ferry which is hardly representative of a tanker.

Hope you can see where i'm coming from...
