  • How many times did you apply?

Hello, I'm an aspiring cadet. But this question is aimed toward the current cadets on the forum.

I'd like to know how many times you had to apply to companies before you finally were offered a cadetship?

Also, which qualifications did you have that got you this far.

    Thank you, SB

Urm, I applied once, to one company only (yes, I didn't do enough research) and I did it with my GCSE's and two not very spectacular A-Levels....
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.....

I applied to about 80% of the companies on the MNTB website. Got a reply from one pretty soon after, had to wait ages for another reply, and then another two a few months later
got a few decent gcses and A levels

Yes I work for the big blue canoe company.
No I do not report things from here to them as they are quite able to come and read this stuff for themselves.

Applied to 8 companies, got 4 interviews and 3 offers. Applied with 11 gcses and 2 a levels. Didnt apply to Clyde as I wasn't impressed with them at the open day.

I applied to 3 companines / training organisations with grades better than their stated minimums and was invited to 3 interviews.

I don't think it was so competitive to get a place back in 2010 and the ETO course seems to be less popular than deck and engine.

Applied once to loads of companies and had offers from about 3 or 4 of them, in 1992 with 9 GCSE's and 4 A levels.

I applied to 3 companies, got 2 interviews the other told me i was too young...wasnt impressed by that one!! only attended 1 interview as the Ash Cloud of 2010 stopped me getting to it and they wouldnt offer an other date. got accepted by the company i had an interview with. I had 8 standard grades, and was about to sit 4 highers. As said above being in the sea cadets helped me out to.

I hated my job at the time and saw Clyde Marine Training were offering places for a HNC in Engineering. Applied in September, forgot about it. I was then contacted in December saying did I still want it had an Interview in January and started a week later. I only applied once.
I've only got 3 GCSES, 2 A-Levels at B grade, PEO Level 2 - Engineering and worked for 2 years on a construction site. It was nice they did a gamble and let me apply. Have a good look around and research the companies before you join them.
Different companies offer different pays and perks.
